Dear Colleagues:

We hope the autumn semester continues to go well for you. As we’ve shared in past updates, we are committed to supporting deans, department chairs and other leaders in educational and change management efforts.

The SB 1 Implementation Committee has created the educational resources that include template presentations, one pagers and additional faculty focused resources to facilitate information sessions and promote wider understanding of the new law. These materials are available on the SB 1 website and will continue to be updated as new resources are added. If you plan to hold an information session in a college, unit or department, representatives from the Office of Academic Affairs will partner with you to plan or present a session. Please reach out directly to Patrick Louchouarn or Helen Malone for assistance.

As a reminder, the Office of Faculty Affairs continues to hold a series of open office hours for faculty and instructors to answer questions on a variety of issues, including topics related to SB 1. Each session includes representatives from faculty affairs, the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning, and the Center for Ethics and Human Values (CEVH). These sessions are open to all faculty and instructors, including graduate teaching associates. CEHV has also created a guide for Facilitating Civil Discourse in the Classroom, which offers instructors resources to ensure that their discussions with students reflect the mission of the university by being open, rigorous and constructive.

Additionally, the SB 1 Compliance website continues to be updated and serves as a central resource for the university community.

We urge you to take advantage of the range of resources and opportunities to support students, faculty and staff. Thank you for your leadership and continued assistance.

Thank you,

Ravi Bellamkonda, Anne Garcia and Stacy Rastauskas
